A Supported Internship is a study programme designed specifically for young people aged 16–24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The programme supports young people with SEND to transition into sustainable, paid employment.
The Supported Internship is a final year of education, because the goal of the programme is to support young people to transition from education into employment. It is different to other education programmes as it involves being in the workplace for most of the week, travelling directly to and from your place of work.
If you are not sure which would be best for you, skills@suffolk.gov.uk will be able to support you to find your local programme.
When you apply for a Supported Internship, you may be required to attend a workshop or interview process prior to being accepted. The provider will be able to explain what happens when you apply and will support you through the application process.
